Recently, I met Sarah for a coffee catch up at a quaint and cosy cafe in Singapore. Like many of us, Sarah was constantly chasing time — juggling her career, family, social life, and personal goals. She worked hard at her job, loved her family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with friends. Yet, no matter how much she accomplished, a deep sense of overwhelm and dissatisfaction lingered beneath the surface.
She shared with me how one evening, she found herself doing what she always did: trying to complete a work project while answering texts from friends, helping her daughter with homework, and preparing dinner. But that evening felt different. The exhaustion she felt wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. She paused, looked around at the chaos, and asked herself, “Is this really the life I want to be living?”
Desperate for change, Sarah began searching for answers. She read self-help books, listened to motivational podcasts, and watched countless videos about time management and work-life balance. But none of it seemed to fit. She felt more lost than ever.
Looking for help, she reached out to a colleague at work who connected her with me.
I didn’t offer quick fixes or magic solutions. Instead, I asked her thoughtful questions — the kind of questions that made Sarah reflect on her deepest values and the life she truly wanted to live.
Over the next few months, we worked together and peeled back the layers of Sarah’s overwhelm and identified the real sources of stress. We redefined her boundaries at work, allowing her to be fully present with her family without guilt. We worked on mindset shifts, helping Sarah embrace self-compassion and let go of the need for perfection.
I introduced her to tools that allowed her to prioritize her well-being, such as mindfulness practices, creating space for reflection, and learning to say “no” to what no longer served her. But most importantly, Sarah reconnected with her purpose. For the first time in years, Sarah felt like she was in control of her life, not the other way around.
Today, Sarah is thriving. Her life isn’t perfect, but it’s perfectly aligned with her values. Whenever life throws new challenges her way, Sarah now approaches them with confidence and calm — because she knows she has the tools and support to handle whatever comes next.
